The statue is a part of Monument dedicated to the astronomer, whic is located in front of he Staszic Palace, the seat of the Polish Academy of Sciences on Krakowskie Przedmiescie (Krakow Suburb). The statue was designed by a Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen in 1822 and erected in 1828–30.
