Located at the top of the Oregon State Capitol Building, this 22-foot tall, 9-ton lumberjack, covered with 23-carat gold leaf, was sculpted in 1938 as the top piece for Oregon's new, art-deco capitol. The design results in some derisively referring to Oregon's capitol building as "the bowling trophy." The sculpture is listed in the Smithsonian's art inventory and is also a U.S. Benchmark due to it's prominent location. It was sculpted in New Jersey by Ulrich Ellerhusen.
