After 95 years of educating students, Fairview Elementary School officially closed its doors in June, 2013. The school's mascot was the falcon, hence one of the colorful mosaics that depicts a falcon perched on a tree branch. The other mosaic spells out 'FAIRVIEW SCHOOL'. There is a plaque that hangs near the front entrance that reads:
In Grateful Appreciation To Ruth ChamberlinFor the Design and Crafting Of This Fairview MuralAugust 2005 |
Ruth Chamberlin is responsible for painting a number of inside (lobby) murals to a few elementary schools in Klamath. She was a former educator for many decades and spends her retirement going to local schools around the Basin and touching up her previous artworks.
There was a recent article in the local Herald and News newspaper that mentioned the City of Klamath Falls donating the school to the local YMCA to take over the operation and management of this location. I'm hoping the Y of Klamath Falls will keep these murals in place as a reminder to the community of what was once here.
