Although the Washington Monument is a must-see (in fact, it's impossible to not see given its 555 feet and 5 1/8 inch height), it's currently closed due to damage caused by a 5.8 magnitude earthquake that occurred in 2011 over 80 miles southwest of Washington, D.C. Repairs are currently underway, but a reopening date has not been announced.

Regardless, the Washington Monument, which is the world's tallest stone structure as well as the world's tallest obelisk, is still a spectacular sight to see. It's a great photo-op for visitors to the Mall and the other monuments in the vicinity.
