This is the "First" and "Oldest" lighthouse location in the Hawaiian Islands and predates any lighthouse on the U.S. Pacific coast under a commission by King Kamehameha III as an aid to navigation for whalers.
Lahaina was the center of the global whaling industry with many sailing ships anchored at Lahaina's waterfront. Today a score of pleasure craft make it their home.
