The sheriff's residence was built in about 1890 in a Victorian Romanesque style. The two-story brick residence features sandstone features including hoods over the windows and a cornice belt line. The building was last used as a residence in the 1970s.

The former jail attached to the rear of the residence was built in 1888 in a Romanesque style. It is constructed of plain sandstone without decoration. The jail was designed by architect, Joseph W. Yost, the designer of the adjacent courthouse and it was built at the same time as the courthouse. The building no longer serves as the jail as that function has been moved to a more modern facility.

The building is in good condition and are used for other county functions.
