In Portugal the game was first made available in the 50's by Majora, a local games publisher. In 1961 there was a second edition and if the first release had the name translated to Portuguese (Monopólio) this 1961 edition had the original title: Monopoly.

From 2006 the board changed, with some new properties replacing old ones, for no apparent reason, and with Euros instead of the old Portuguese currency (Escudos).

It was a glorious quarter once, of the final years of the Empire, becoming slowly dodgy, inhabited by poor immigrants from Africa and Brazil, drug consumption and prostitution skyrocketed and the real estate decayed. These days there is a relative effort to renovate the neighborhood but it's still short for the needs.
