The boar is carved from stone and occupies about three quarters of the stone. The other area is given over to an inscription that reads "Rebuilt by Wm Harris 1897". The stone, that is on sixth floor level, is estimated as being three metres wide by two and a half metres high. The boar is shown sitting on its haunches with its head to the right. It has a fierce looking mouth and appears to be alert. Around the boar and the date is some flower work also in relief.

In 1994 when the building was listed, the ground floor was a butcher's shop but today it is a Pret a Manger store. It is unclear as to what the building was constructed as. It may have been as a butcher's shop but would one be necesary when Smithfield Meat Market is just a few steps away? Or, with market workers being a thirsty breed, was it built as a pub?
