An eternal flame was installed in 1969 on the Terry County courthouse grounds to honor those who died in defense of freedom.

The eternal flame is near the new All Wars Memorial on the northwest corner of the Terry County Courthouse grounds in downtown Brownfield TX.

The flame is a simple marble monument inscribed as follows:

"FLAME OF FREEDOM

Presented by the American Legion and Auxiliary Post No. 269 in memory of all veterans who gave their lives in war.

March 15, 1969"
