The clock is attached to the south east face of the east tower of the Royal Courts of Justice and hangs over Fleet Street. The clock is set in a magnificent case that has a face on each side so it can be viewed from Fleet Street in one direction and Strand in the other.
The clock case is primarily black with red and white trim and ironwork coloured gold. There are representations of sun, moon and stars in white at the lower part of the case near the clock face.
The face of the clock is white and possibly translucent allowing it to be back-lit at night. There are four gold rings sat on the face with the outer ring being around the circumference and being much wider than the three internal rings.
Between the broad outer ring and first ring inside it are the minute marks. These are black in colour and all similar in design. Between the second and third rings there are further black coloured markers at the hour locations. Between the third and fourth (inner ring) are the hour numbers. These are also black in colour and are typical Roman numerals used on a clock face.
The hands are black in colour, simple in design and lack tails.
Within the inner gold ring there is a geometric pattern made up of six diamond shapes. The outlines of the diamonds are very fine.
