Rob Haley is a successful chef running a restaurant called The Worlds End. After his wife dies in a car accident the restaurant dives, particularly after a critic awards it avoid status. Hayley’s wife had fallen in love with the Boot pub in the country. After a couple of years Hayley decides to make a new start and buys the Boot.

Trade at the pub is initially slow until restaurant critic Kate Templeton gives him a review. After that trade picks up to the extent that the village is overrun by cars from avid diners. In particular Kate’s father and her ex husband decide to close the Boot down. The ex husband, James, plants mice in the kitchen in the middle of the night and then calls the health inspector. Police are also called to raid for drugs used by the sous chef. The local council serves notice of closure on Hayley.

Guy Witherspoon is a food critic with his own TV show. With a vacant slot to fill Guy decides to review the Boot. The day for the review is the same day as the appeal to the council over the closure notice. Hayley decides to cook for Guy rather than go to the appeal. Meanwhile Kate defends Hayley at the appeal, despite Hayley having fallen out with Kate when he finds out it was her review that closed the Worlds End.

The council accepts the appeal and Guy’s review is excellent. Unfortunately Kate is leaving for the airport and Hayley gives chase, crashing his car in the process. He manages to stop Kate and they get back together.
