The meeting of the two major rivers of the Perth metropolitan area.
The Canning River is approx 107km in length and rise near North Bannister to the southeast
The Swan River starts it's 170km journey as the Avon River and changes name to the Swan at the confluence of the Woorooloo Brook and the Avon River in Walyunga National Park 50km upstream from this point.
Both rivers were used extensively in the early days of the Swan River Colony for a transport route from Fremantle to Perth and further up both rivers
At the confluence the Canning River is approx 600m wide and the Swan River 2.0km wide . The confluence can be seen from anywhere along the cycle path beside the Freeway between Como and Canning Bridge on the eastern side of Canning River and Canning Bridge and South Perth Yacht Club on the western side
Parking is available anywhere along the western side of Canning River , but on the other side access to the beach is by several pedestrian overpasses
