In de 2 'dewereldoorlog is Groede gespaard gebleven.
Groede waseen Rode kruis dorp waardoor het niet gebombardeerd is.
Hierdoor is ook de toren blijven staan. Daarop wasdestijds een groot rood kruis geverfd,zodat het dorp vanuit de lucht te
herkennen was. De hoge toren is uniek in de omgeving en is al van
ver te zien.

In the WW II Groede was spared.
In Groede laid the Red Cross village so it is not bombed.
On the church tower they painted a big red cross, so the village was visible from the air. The tower is unique in the area.
But not the least peolple where killed in protecting the near by villages.
