Vanaf het centrum van Watervliet, richting Eeklo over de brug van het Leopoldskanaal links is dit monument te vinden.
Een bank, gemaakt van brokstukken van de door dynamiet opgeblazen brug.
Naast de bank ligt een steen in het gras met de naam van de operatie “Switchback” erin gebeiteld en een informatiebord met de volgende tekst:
Deze bank kreeg de naam
“SWITCHBACK”
ter herinnering aan de pioniers van de “Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders” die hier op 14 oktober 1944 het Leopoldkanaal overschreden, in het kader van de operatie SWITCHBACK, en Watervliet bevrijdden.
De bank werd opgericht met de brokstukken van de gedynamiteerde brug.
Onthuld op 11 december 1999 door Zijne Excellentie Mr. C. Laverdure.
