The Southern Pacific runs north - south through the Central Valley. Because much of the land is low lying, the tracks are on raised levees.

This bridge crosses the lower Cosumnes River at the edge of the preserve. Work crews were replacing track that had buckled on the levees due to sinking. Two trains of over one hundred cars passed in a period of four hours.
The railroad was here before I-5. The self guided trail loops under a concrete land bridge several times. The land rumbles when it goes by.
Bridge Type: Truss

Bridge Usage: Railroad

Moving Bridge: This bridge is static (has no moving pieces)
