There is about 1/4 mile of boardwalk on the slough. Parts on the east side trail. The west side is handicapable. There are no siderails, except at the dead end turnaround.

The wetlands are protected for migrating waterfowl, some 250 varieties pass at different times. Of special interst, because they are so large and easy to see (and a very recognizable and unforgettable call) are the Sandhill cranes which are in the Sacramento Valley and San Joaquin delta between December and January.
This area is a national Natural Landmark because of its unique wetlands. It is at the base of a free flowing river.
