Il a été construit pour alimenter l'ancien camp de la Braconne
un laboratoire scientifique (CEBC ou Centre d'études biologiques de Chizé), qui occupe l'emplacement d'un ancien camp militaire ouvert en 1952 sur environ 2 600 hectares dans la partie sud du massif pour garder des dépôts de munitions et fermé en 1967... non loin du « camp de la Braconne » qui a abrité jusqu'à environ 4 000 militaires américains et civils français (fermé le 13 mars 1967).

It was built to supply the former camp Braconne
a scientific laboratory (CEBS or Centre for Biological Studies Chize), which occupies a former military camp opened in 1952 approximately 2,600 hectares in the southern part of the massif location to keep ammunition depots and closed in 1967 not far from ... "camp Braconne" that housed up to about 4 000 U.S. military and civilian French (closed March 13, 1967).
