[EN] Saint Louans's priory, situated at the edge of Vienne river in Chinon, owes its name to the Saint hermit, who lived in a cave of tufas, in these places in the VIth century. In the Xth century, Benedictines built on the hillside a monastery in an exceptional frame, in the moderate climate.
The monastery was plundered in the revolution and sold as good state. In 1858, a part of the community of present Augustine at the Hospital of Chinon, had to leave, following administrative pressures.
They bought Saint Louans's priory to group the Sisters, making of this place the Parent company, until 1972. The same year, the Congregation of Augustines de Saint Louans united with the Congregation of Augustine of Angers.
