The first school house in Kettle Falls was built in 1891 in the old Kettle Falls. When the Grand Coulee Dam was built, the lake formed behind it, Roosevelt Lake, flooded many towns upstream in the Columbia River Valley in 1939, the town of Kettle Falls being one. So, the citizens of Kettle Falls moved much of their town to Meyers Falls, just to the east on higher ground. Shortly thereafter, as a memorial to the underwater town of Kettle Falls, Meyers Falls changed its name to Kettle Falls. One building left behind was the original school. Not really left behind, it was torn down and some of the materials used in another building in Meyers Falls.
This bell was salvaged and eventually found its way to the Kettle Falls High School, where it is on display today.
