The plaque accompanying this 1978 sculpture indicates that it is an "abstract evocation of aquatic life" and pays homage to New Bedford's sea-faring history. It is made from wood and steel and it is 17'x 28' x15'.
The artist is Texan James Surls. The work appears to be a spiked branch....similar to certain corals or some seaweeds.
