This station is a U.S. Geological Survey standard bench mark disk, located in Breckenridge, CO. It is set vertically in the front wall of a tee shirt shop on the east side of South Main Street (formerly CO Rt. 9), just north of Washington Avenue.
From the appearance of this particular disk, it's style suggests that this mark may have been set by the USGS about 100 years ago. USC&GS bluebooked it in 1951.
This is the original 1951 USC&GS (NGS) description:
AT BRECKENRIDGE, 37 FEET EAST OF THE CENTER LINE OF STATE HIGHWAY 9,
SET VERTICALLY IN THE WEST WALL OF THE GAMBLE STORE BUILDING, 1 FOOT
NORTH OF THE SOUTHWEST CORNER OF THE BUILDING, 2.3 FEET ABOVE THE
LEVEL OF THE SIDEWALK.
A more recent update to the description:
RECOVERY NOTE BY METROPOLITAN STATE COLLEGE-DENVER 2007 (RBP) MOUNTAIN TEES BUILDING IS 300 FT SOUTH OF THE INTERSECTION OF BUSINESS
HIGHWAY 9 AND SKI HILL ROAD ON BUSINESS HIGHWAY 9 (SOUTH MAIN STREET).
The mark is very easy to find, perhaps the easiest in the region. It is loggable on Geocaching as well as this site, please consider logging on both sites when you visit it. Thank you.
