The "Hand of God" is a huge hand cast from aluminium with a man sitting in its palm. The sze is said to be 140 x 385 x 155cm and weighs in at 400kg.

The Castle Galleries website tells us:

The iconic sculpture, Hand of God by Lorenzo Quinn, has been unveiled in London’s Royal Exchange courtesy of Castle Fine Art and Halcyon Gallery.

Quinn began sculpting in 1989 and his striking works can be seen in many prestigious collections worldwide. He also boasts an enviable list of commissions including works for the United Nations and The Vatican, which was blessed by the Pope in front of 35,000 people.

Katrina Aris, Castle Fine Art, Royal Exchange’s gallery manager said: “This is a rare and exciting opportunity for people to see one of Lorenzo Quinn’s installations that have been seen across the globe.  “Quinn’s pieces are internationally recognised and admired for being flawless. Each piece delivers a message to the audience and the power to evoke strong emotions.”

Quinn, who is the son of late actor Anthony Quinn, spent his childhood between Italy and America, each of which had influences on his art. He studied at the American Academy of Fine Arts in New York with the intention of becoming a surrealist painter.  However at the age of 21, he decided that his future lay in sculpture.

Lorenzo has since exhibited internationally from the Marigold Gallery in India, the Heward Art Gallery in Saudi Arabia, the Ode to Art Gallery in Singapore and the Halcyon Gallery in London. In 2011, Quinn was also selected to exhibit at the illustrious 54th International Art Exhibition, Venice Biennale.

Speaking about his work, Quinn said: “I don’t believe in purely decorative work. It must transmit emotions, it must say something to me and the people that observe it.”

The sculpture is available to view free of charge outside The Royal Exchange building. The Royal Exchange is located near Bank station and the gallery is open Monday to Friday 9.00am -7.00pm.
