Located at the NW corner of the Oregon Institute of Technology (OIT) campus is a newer native plant garden that was developed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, OIT and volunteers from the Schoolyard Habitat Program. This native garden comprises a zigzagging rock path that meanders up a hill and there are placards along the way that focus on specific native plants and trees that make up this garden.

This particular placard highlights the Juniper Community that exists here in the Klamath Basin. Plants commonly found in juniper communities include birchleaf mountain mahogany, blue elderberry, desert gooseberry, wax current and Klamath plum.

You can learn more about the projects the Schoolyard Habitat Program provides by visiting their website here and here.
