Located at the NW corner of the Oregon Institute of Technology (OIT) campus is a newer native plant garden that was developed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, OIT and volunteers from the Schoolyard Habitat Program. This native garden comprises a zigzagging rock path that meanders up a hill and there are placards along the way that focus on specific native plants and trees that make up this garden.
This particular placard highlights the Shrub Community that exists here in the Klamath Basin. This is the most dominant community in the Klamath Basin and includes sagebrush, rubber rabbitbrush and bitterbrush. During Spring and into the summer months many of these shrubs bloom and produce beautiful and colorful wildflowers.
