"The Bertrand bookshop emerged in Portugal in 1732 in Chiado, founded by Pedro Faure, French, married to Magdalena Bonnardel Brunier and two married daughters with two Frenchmen who have settled in Lisbon. Madalena married João José Bertrand Martinho and Catherina married to Bertrand.
When given the death of Pedro Faure, on March 11, 1753, the company "Faure & Irmãos Bertrand" is renamed just "Irmãos Bertrand".
In April 2010, the Bertrand wins the Guinness World Records for "the oldest booksellers in activity 'and the bookstore Bertrand in Chiado, Lisbon, wins the Guinness World Record for' the oldest bookstore in activity '."
