Since the first State Fair in Janesville in 1851, it moved on an annual basis until 1892 when the current location in West Allis became the permanent home.
Besides holding the fair and other events throughout the year, the park also housed troops and equipment during the Spanish-American War and World Wars I and II.
The plaque is mounted at the entrance to the new Exposition Hall.
