The Oregon Institute of Technology (OIT) hosts an annual festival each February called the Winter Wings Festival. The Festival is a celebration of eagles, raptors, and waterfowl and is a community-wide event that offers a variety of field trips, mini-sessions and workshops. In addition to an exciting selection of field trips, mini-sessions and workshops, there is also an emphasis on top quality photographers, commercial vendors and artists, primarily in nature-related fields. This event contains a number of vendors and displays that offer commercial services, arts and crafts, educational materials and even food. This event has slowly gained popularity with the local and regional townsfolk and has become popular with children for the live raptors and waterfowl that young people can touch and hold. It is also popular for young children to be part of an art workshop that educates them on the local bird species and mixes in fun art projects to help them better appreciate their surroundings. This year, the local Home Depot had a bird house-making workshop that was very well received by the children (and their parents).
