Accordingly to the legend - quite a modern one - a Saint appeared here in 1999.

They say it was on the 16th February 1999. In that day a saint, Nossa Senhora da Bondade (popularly known as Virgem da Cortiça - Cork Virgin) showed up on this location.

A cork tree started to smell like roses from that day. People took cork bits and eventually, because there was too many people taking too much cork, the tree died.

Still, the tradition stayed and every month, on the first Sunday, by noon, people gathers and pray together. There is even an altar, constructed by the locals.
