The mural was placed on the front façade of the courthouse as a memorial to the pioneers of the Colville Valley who, beginning in 1825, settled the valley, farming the land, harvesting the forests and mining the minerals which made the valley what it is today, a vibrant, prosperous community. It is this era of the valley's history which the mural depicts. It is composed of large painted and glazed tiles set in the brick wall of the courthouse.

To the beautiful Colville Valley in 1825 came those hardy pioneers who through their fortitude, perseverance and industry have wrought from the earth its vast mineral wealth, have hewn from the forests the lumber with which to build and from the soil have reaped an abundant livelihood, making this a thriving prosperous, progressive community.
Honor to the Pioneers who broke the sod that men to come might live
