The story of the Llloyd and Whittle families continue in this film. Pippa Lloyd and Neil Whittle are going out together and go up to Exeter University. At university they drift apart, but later get back together again, get married and have a baby.
The Lloyd family have to adjust to life without Pippa. Harriet Lloyd has a brief affair with Gordon Callow, a local antique dealer, whilst Hugh Lloyd opens a branch office in Exeter, to keep an eye on Pippa.
Bevis Whittle has difficulty adjusting to life without Neil, and has a nervous breakdown. Shani persuades him to do a course at night school, whilst she enrols for a degree.
