"Another link to the United States is found all the way down by the bridge, a statue of Catherine of Bragança by American artist Audrey Flack. Meant to be a replica of a bigger statue that was to be placed in New York by the Hudson, it remembers the Portuguese princess who became queen of England and whose husband named Queens (New York) in her honor."

""Association Friends of Queen Catherine" commissioned Audrey Flack a bronze statue of about ten meters high (the highest in New York following the Statue of Liberty), which would be placed in a place called Hunter's Point, opposite the United Nations building. The inauguration, scheduled for 1998, simultaneously celebrate the centenary of the the foundation of New York and the Lisbon World Exposition, but the plans were definitely committed to the objections raised by historians and political activists.
The plaster model of the statue rests in the foundry in Beacon NY, waiting for the huge legal and political mess is settled."
