This arboretum was a gift to the public in 1970 by Frances and Bob Bickelhaupt. The area surrounding their home has been planted into an outdoor museum for all to enjoy. Open from Dawn to Dusk, there is no fee for your visit.
After 30 years the plant collection is reaching its prime. The Heartland Collection of Garden Conifers is one of the top public conifer collections in the country with 592 cultivars. It also contains a Hosta National Display Garden with more than 225 cultivars and other shade-loving plants. It contains many ornamental shrubs and flowering trees, including a large lilac collection.
Other types of gardens include: Rock, Herb, Butterfly, Peony, and wildflower. The Native Prairie Plants area contain flowers and grasses that are often seen growing wild along the highways and by-ways of the midwest.
Come and enjoy a day looking and learning.
