Nymharium domus (4th c. AD)

This Private house which could in fact have been a schola for philosophy, occupied the width of a block. It was a large and sumptuous face area of 1500m2, comprising about twenty rooms; some opened onto a paved street and were probably used as shops. Most of the rooms, fifteen or so, were paved with polychrome mosaics. They were arranged around a vast garden in the middle of which was an apse shaped basin decorated on the inside with a mosaic representing figured motifs : a fine head of god Oceanus bordered on the right and left with different species of fish and other marine creatures, such as small dolphin a lobster; above these representations is a Latin inscription n yellow cubes on a dark background indiating, in the fashion of a plate, the name of the house. Nympharum domus, the House of Nymphs. these fine mosaics are displayed in the small Nabeul Museum.
