The Edmond Soccer Club maintains sixteen soccer fields on Danforth, West of Kelly. Soccer is popular in Edmond and these fields are full of happy, athletic children in the fall and spring of the year.
On the west side of the fields, this sculpture is a memorial to Barry Hill, a long time supporter of soccer in the Edmond area. The sculpture stands on a brick pillar, surrounded by three concrete and brick benches. The bronze sculpture is about fourteen inches high and shows a patch of grass on which lay a soccer ball, a pair of soccer cleats and two ribbons with medallions reading "Frontier Country Sooner Association" and "St. Louis Gateway to the Gold U.S. Olympic Festival '49". The piece was created by sculptor, Jack Mortz.
The bronze memorial plaque reads:
HEART OF A CHAMPION
Barry N. Hill
1948 - 1995
Dedicated to his children and to the
development of youth soccer in Edmond,
Frontier Country, Oklahoma, the USA,
and even the world...
