H.S. Daniels began construction of the house in 1874 and completed it in 1876. In 1880, Daniels sold the house to Thomas Bair who sold it the the Chapman’s wife Elizabeth in 1883. The house has passed to several family members and still remains in the family.
John G. Chapman was the founder of the Union Gold Bluff Placer Mine at lower Gold Bluff Beach in what is now Redwood National and State Parks.
