The original Gothic stronghold was built in the half of the 13th century when the silver mining started in this region. In 1424 it was seized by the Hussites, but their leader Jan Žižka died of plague during the siege. The demolished stronghold was in the 16th century rebuilt into a Renaissance castle, which was later adapted in Classicist style.

Puvodní pribyslavský gotický hrad vznikl s rozvojem težby stríbra v okolí v polovine 13. století. Roku 1424 jej dobyli husité, ovšem pri obléhání zemrel, na mor, sám vojevudce Jan Žižka. Znicený hrad byl v polovine 16. století nahrazen renesancním zámkem, pozmeneném pozdeji v duchu klasicismu.

Na zámku sídlí Sdružení hasicu Cech, Moravy a Slezska. Zámek prevzal do své péce r. 1980 Svaz požární ochrany CSSR.
