The state of Nebraska erected several such markers along the route of the Oregon Trail in 1912. This one is near some excellent trail signs at the well-known choke-point at Mitchell Pass, on board Scotts Bluff National Monument.
The marker reads as follows:
"OREGON TRAIL
Marked by the state of Nebraska 1912
Trail passed 37 feet North of this point
Mitchell Pass"
