"The Soldiers & Sailors monument in the village park in front of the old Mynderse Academy. The granite and bronze monument to Union soldiers and sailors from the Civil War was dedicated on May 30, 1889. The memorial was made possible through a bequest from the estate of Albert G. Cook, a president of the First National Bank of Seneca Falls. He wanted to leave something that would be a monument to the brave soldiers and sailors who gave their lives for their country. Caroline Cook and her daughter carried out Albert's wishes after his death in 1885. Located in the village park at Cayuga St and Park Street in Seneca Falls, NY" ~ Carol on Flicker

Proper Description: "A granite figure of Victory rests atop a granite column that is installed on a round granite base. Bronze figures of a sentinel and a sailor flank the column. The entire work rests on a stepped base." ~ Smithsonian American Art Museum

DIFFERENCES NOTED BETWEEN THE INVENTORY LISTING AND YOUR OBSERVATIONS AND RESEARCH:
Many: 1st Title: should be "The Albert Cook Memorial" as written on the monument. 2nd: Cast by Dayton Mfg. Co. not listed 3rd: none of the base is round. The bottom is a stepped base, the bottom third is a hexagon column, the center hexagon and the top third round. 4th: location not listed 5th: None of the three panels nor their text are displayed in the listing. Text printed above. 6th: It is the village park, but the correct name I am told is Mynderse Park. Also: in Google books about the monument it states that Albert Cook's widow and daughter, at his request, gave $10,000 to Seneca Falls for the Monument.
