+ Si Grasse est une ville réputée pour ses parfums, c'est aussi autour de l'art et plus particulièrement de la sculpture sur marbre que la ville souhaite marquer sa particularité.
Jumelée depuis 1995 avec la ville italienne de Carrare, mondialement connue pour son marbre, c'est donc tout naturellement qu'est né le projet d'organiser une biennale de la sculpture sur marbre. Avec 78 candidats dès la première édition, 220 projets émanant des quatres coins du monde nous sont parvenus pour l'édition 2011.
Pendant 2 semaines du lundi 24 juin au samedi 6 juillet 2013 ; sept artistes sélectionnés par un concours lancé au niveau international, réaliseront in situ une oeuvre en marbre de Carrare.
Les visiteurs auront la chance de voir et de parler avec les sculpteurs en action présents sur l'esplanade du cours Honoré Cresp. Ils pourront suivre toutes les étapes fascinantes du bloc brut à la sculpture finale.
Ce projet culturel aux multiples facettes vise à :
- valoriser le travail sur marbre, dont la pratique est reconnue comme difficile,
- protéger le patrimoine et l'identité des cultures locales,
- permettre le plus large accès d'un art à tous les publics.

+ While Grasse is known for its perfumes, the town likewise hopes to make a name for itself in art, especially in marble sculpture.
Organising a marble sculpture biennale here seems natural, given that since 1995 the town has been a sister city to the Italian city of Carrara, internationally renowned for its marble. With 78 candidates from the very first edition, 220 projects from the four corners of the globe were received for the 2011 edition.
For the 2 weeks between Monday 24 June and Saturday 6 July 2013, seven artists selected in a worldwide competition will sculpt works in Carrara marble onsite.
Visitors will have the opportunity to see and speak with the sculptors as the artists work on the promenade Honoré Cresp and to follow all the fascinating stages from the rough block through to the finished sculpture.
This multi-faceted cultural project is intended to:
- promote the difficult work of sculpting in marble,
- protect the heritage and identity of local cultures,
- provide access to art for the widest possible audience.
