1978 : Le docteur Jacques LAMARQUE propose au maire l’idée d’un 6 trous dans l’anneau de l’hippodrome. L’étude fut confié à M. Rios, architecte de golf. Le projet, trop couteux tombe a l’eau.
Au début des années 80 : La FFGolf avec le soutien de l’état, lance une campagne de démocratisation du golf. Mise en place du plan vert financé par le FNDS, avec l’obligation d’avoir une association.
6 Novembre 1984 : Création de l’association. Les statuts seront déposés le lendemain. Le golf de Niort débute avec une caravane en guise de club house et 6 trous très rustique.
26 Avril 1985 : Inauguration du practice.
Recrutement d’un pro : M. COLLET.

Novembre 1987 : Inauguration des 9 trous
15 Septembre 1988 : Inauguration du club house
1991 : Inauguration des 15 trous.
