In Abe Andrews park, near a beautiful wood gazebo, stands this metal slatted bench dedicated to Ray Byron and Lucile McElhaney Frogge. A memorial plaque on the concrete pad reads: "In Memory of Lucile McElhaney Frogge and Ray Byron Frogge."

A genealogical website (http://www.geocities.ws/lnlittlej/frogge.htm) documents information on this couple:

"Ray Byron Frogge...was born in Payden, Okfuskee, Oklahoma April 4, 1909. His parents were Lawrence Elsworth Frogge and Mary Ellen Thomas. He met Lucile McElhaney when he was a student at the University of Oklahoma and she was a saleswomen at Woolworth's in Norman, OK. They married on August 17, 1934, at the Baptist Church of Shawnee. Ray graduated the following year from OU, where he had lettered as a wrestler. His first job was in Duncan where he taught junior high math and was the high school's first wrestling coach. In 1937, the couple moved to Noble, where Ray taught math, coached football and wrestling, and served as principle of the high school for two years. Ray continued to work in the schools for three more years, holding coaching and teaching jobs in Calumet and Battist.

"Soon after, he went into the refrigeration and air conditioning business where he owned his own shop in Wilburton and McAlester. Ray and Lucile moved to Norman in 1954, and Ray worked at the South Naval Base for three years. He worked for seven more years at the Federal Aviation Administration, serving as supervisor of operations and preventive maintenance. Then he went to work at the Veterans Hospital in Oklahoma City. In 1977, after ten years with the Veterans Hospital, he retired as a supervisor.

"Ray and Lucile celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1984 where all three of their children and most of their grandchildren attended. Ray enjoyed gardening, whittling with his knife, making knives, and making wine. He was also a good artist."
