This is a Waymark for a sculpture called "Horner Jugend" (literally: "Youth of Horn") by the local sculptor Gerhard Brandes (1923-2013) in 1971.

After the Second World War, the Senate of Hamburg (which is the state government) decided to invent a long-term project called "art in public spaces" (German: "Kunst im öffentlichen Raum"): Local artists, mainly sculptors from Hamburg itself or northern Germany at least, got public places for their works. The Senate only proposed a topic or theme, bought for example the sculpture later on and pays for placing and maintaining it. The rest was totally up to the artist. Most of the hundreds of sculptures all over Hamburg have no plaque, so the only way to get some information on particular pieces is to call the Kunstbehörde (state ministry for art). They told me that this naked boy was also made by Brandes in 1971 when the state built a number of social housing units. The addition that the boy is perhaps naked since in Horn live mainly poor people was meant as a joke, I guess, but I found it not that funny at all. Well. This is all what I could find out so far. Maybe other Waymarkers can add some information later on.
