Slocan School - Slocan, BC - Former Schools on Waymarking.com

The history of this school seems shrouded in mystery, as no reference to it has yet been found. The first school was a small one or two room school built on the south side of the present elementary school in 1901; the second was a two storey building behind the present school. Both of these would have been two blocks south of this school.

Given that the present school is a larger, concrete block building with several classrooms, we have to assume that this was possible the third of Slocan's schools.

The only reference to this school that could be found is in this paragraph from the Slocan Community Library:

"The Slocan Community Library is located in the heart of the Village of Slocan, at the north end of the Health and Wellness Center. The Wellness Center is owned by the Village of Slocan and operated by a dedicated group of volunteers. The building that was once an old school house has been renovated to accommodate a Library, Fitness Center, and Medical Facility. The Library relies on grants, donations, and public memberships to keep it thriving. Donations and memberships can be obtained during regular business hours."

The building's outward appearance definitely suggests that it was a school, possibly of 40s or 50s vintage, possibly later. It appears as though it was a three room school with two entrances, and likely without a basement, with the possible exception of a utility and mechanical room.
