Masonry in the Richmond area has a 200+ year history starting with the 89th Foot Regiment. The Goodwood Lodge was formed with a dispensation dated September 29th 1863. The first master was Rev C.B. Pettit, Rector of St. John’s Anglican Church in Richmond. The second founder was Robert Lyon, who was also the Mayor of Ottawa in 1867 at the time of confederation. The cornerstone for the Masonic Hall on McBean St was laid in 1918.
