This fountain is old: it was built in the middle 18th Century, near the building which was constructed at the same time, by then to serve as a jail. In this place, before the fountain (and the jail) there was a gate, a medieval gate, from which the fountain was named after (Porta do Olival means "Olive trees field Gate")
It's still in use as a decorative fountain and it's possible that in the past its water was used by the local inhabitants. Not anymore, of course, it even has a label with a warning: do not use the water of the fountain as its quality it's not being monitored.
Oddly, there isn't much information available about this fountain.
