The Niles Theater was established in 1937, based off their Facebook page. Their website was down and wasn't able to obtain info other than their Facebook page which reads:

The Niles Theater first opened its doors in February of 1937 with a capacity well over 500. Operating today as both a film and stage theater, the Niles Theater provides high quality live productions and movies.

As of July 31st, 2013, we provide a fully digital cinema system, featuring Christie Digital and RealD 3D.

I visited this theater during the day and wasn't able to determine if the theater sign is lit at night. This theater is also featured as part of a walking tour of Alturas and the website reference to this theater reads:

Marker 12. Niles Theater was constructed of pressed brick during the Great Depression for local businessman J.E.Niles in 1936-37 to bring entertainment to Alturas.
