The originally wooden fort from the 14th century (first mentioned in 1360) was later rebuilt into a stone castle protected by three gates with drawbridges. In 1524, the castle was captured by the Hussites, reconstructed and then conquered by the Swedes in 1634. In the second half of the 17th century, the core of the castle was rebuilt into a baroque chateau. The Letovice chateau acquired its current look in 1830s when it was held by the Hungarian family of Kálnoky until 1945. After a period of dilapidation, it was privately acquired again in 2004 and opened to public in 2008.
There is a restaurant in the chateau (Zámecká jízdárna), wine cellars, torture room with a dungeon, a collection of agricultural technology and historic vehicles and an antique shop.
The chateau offers the following services to public: organization of weddings, parties, receptions, cultural events, seminars and exhibitions.
There are regular antique markets, craft fairs, theatre performances for children, concerts and other events.
