Before I went to Hong Kong and Guangzhou back in 1997, I started to get accostumed with the local habits and traditions of southern China. That included local food since there is no »Chinese cuisine« but only various regional dishes that differ a lot if you prefer to go for authentic meals. I found out that there are thousands of Chinese snack bars and restaurants in Hamburg but all they offer is a Europeanized indifferent pseudo-Asian mishmash, far away from authentic food that awaited me in China and the British Crown Colony of Hong Kong (which it still were the time I arrived).
This restaurant though offers mostly authentic food, including Dim Sum or fried crispy poultry feet (yummy). The prices are way higher than one would expect but they offer a relatively cheap lunch special from Mondays through Fridays. Try that first!
The restaurant regularly hosts delegations from the Peoples Republic of China and is presumably run by Communist Chinese or aides of the Consulate General but who cares as long as the food is different from what you get elsewhere? The waitresses and waiters are usually not very friendly and have language problems speaking either German or even English. Try to address them in Cantonese or at least Mandarine, you will recognize to see them smile and bring you free jasmine tea or so. Use at least »Mgoi!« for »Thank you«: that'll do. Learn how to eat with chopsticks before you go to this place!
All in all, I love this rather strange and expensive restaurant although most of my friends don't like authentic Chinese food. Since it is directly in the city center (adjacent to the central station), it's my personal tip for any tourists!
