The Carter House Inn was completed in 1982 and is a re-creation of the Murphy House (1885) in San Francisco which was destroyed by the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and fire. The plans were found in a Eureka antique shop in 1978. The Murphy House was designed by the famous Newsom Brothers of San Francisco, the same architects who created the nearby lavish Carson Mansion (http://www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WM2WYE_Carson_Mansion) here in Eureka.
