This mural, funded by the city of Ottawa's Paint-it-up program and organized by Ottawa Urban Arts and the Sandy Hill Community Health Centre is located on Chapel Street at Mann Ave. The scene covers the brick wall on the side of the building. It depicts nature in turmoil with waves crashing, a submarine, a UFO, a large bird, a guy swinging on a tire hanging from a tree surrounded by a yellow square, orange circle and blue triangle, and at the far end a message in a bottle like a plea for help.
Paint It Up! was launched on March 1, 2010 as an enhancement to the City’s Graffiti Management Strategy and as a component of the Youth Engagement Mural Program. This program promotes the use of outdoor murals as a graffiti vandalism deterrent, while simultaneously supporting local arts and culture, enhancing the City’s beauty for residents and visitors, and engaging youth at risk in positive skill-building experiences.
